The island is a National Park and Biosphere reserve, Isla Isabel is a bird refuge, home to several rare and beautiful birds. Nine species of seabirds breed there in large numbers.
Located off the coast of Nayarit in the municipality of Santiago Ixcuintla. It covers 194 hectares, housing an important wealth of ecosystems: lagoon, mangrove, sandy beach, slope and coastline. These include mollusks, echinoderms, crustaceans, marine mammals, 24 ray and shark species, six reptilian species, three turtle species and 92 bird species. Flagship species include the whale shark, brown pelican, blue-footed booby and red-footed booby.
Underwater sightings may include yellow tail, manta ray, humpback whale, whale shark, and turtle. Beautiful coral reefs, uncommon in this area of the world, make Isabel island even more unique.
