Veracruz

Veracruz is a hidden gem for divers, boasting an impressive eight-platform reef system.

The port of Veracruz has many reef platforms, also called the Systema Arrecifal Veracruzano. The platform reef system is prepared for our exploration, and it contains five major sunken ships, several of which are of a military nature.

The seabed of this site is a must-see for divers of all levels of experience. It’s not just about exploring what’s below, it’s also diving between coral walls, home to a variety of reef fish, including the unique “Elacatinus jarocho,” a species endemic to this area. You’ll also spot turtles, rays, barracudas, moray eels, and a vast array of marine life.

Diving in Veracruz is an excellent option year-round. For warmer dives with fewer crowds, the optimal booking period is from May to November, when water temperatures of around 82ºF (28ºC) match the balmy conditions found in Cozumel and Cancun.

While conditions at the dive sites are excellent throughout the year, from November on, wind direction determines the navigable sites. As long as you can access the site on the day of your dive, the diving in Veracruz is excellent year-round, and the sites should be quiet. The wrecks in the area offer stunning visibility of 30 meters year-round.Regarding marine life, the migrational patterns are not well-studied, so you may encounter a variety of species, including whale sharks and bull sharks.Veracruz is also known for its vibrant music scene, with several music festivals taking place during the year.
